Q: Just the facts, please.

Angel Leigh McCoy writes novels, novellas, and short stories connected by one epic body of lore under the umbrella of From Wyrdwood.
The stories are:

  • Written for adults
  • Cozy or mature (with clear trigger warnings where needed)
  • Blends of dark fantasy, suspense, and mystery
  • A new mythology for the 21st century
  • Spanning novels, novellas, and short stories
  • Populated with cross-over characters you’ll meet, hate, and fall in love with again and again

Q: What are the books about?

The stories take place in Wyrdwood, a small coastal town where promises are contracts, magick is real, and secrets hide everywhere. From pureblood kin to those of mixed heritage—and even unsuspecting humans—everyone’s life is touched by the supernatural. But when you can’t tell anyone who (or what) you truly are, trouble is never far away.

Each book explores the mysteries, histories, and dangers of Wyrdwood through the eyes of its residents, whether that’s a catsitter who stumbles into danger, a diva fox writing horoscopes, or other unforgettable characters caught between the ordinary and the magical.

Q: Do I need to read the books in order?

Not always! Each story in the Catsitter Mysteries stands on its own, but reading them in order lets you watch Kitty, Muse, and the rest of Wyrdwood’s residents grow and change over time. The larger From Wyrdwood universe is full of cross-over characters, so the more you read, the more connections you’ll uncover.
    Suggested Reading Order:

    1. Wyrdwood Welcome Trilogy: Gives you a gentle introduction to the From Wyrdwood universe.
    2. Catsitter Mysteries series: Each book stands on its own, but the overarching story unfolds through the series.
    3. The Reluctant Undertaker: This standalone novel may one day become a series, but for now you can read it any time. It introduces characters you also see in the “Aaargh” short story found in the freebies section of this site.

Q: What genre are your books?

They’re a magical blend of paranormal cozy mystery, dark fantasy, and suspense. Some lean cozier (with cats, shenanigans, and humor), while others explore darker themes (with clear trigger warnings noted). No matter which you pick up, expect mystery, magick, and characters you won’t forget.

Q: Where is Wyrdwood, and is it a real place?

Wyrdwood is a fictional Oregon coastal town—fog-draped, windswept, and brimming with secrets. While the setting is imagined, it’s inspired by real small towns along the Pacific coast. If you’ve ever wandered through misty evergreens, heard the sea crash against black rock, or felt like a story was waiting around the corner, you’ve already been halfway to Wyrdwood.

Q: Are your books suitable for younger readers?

The books are written for adult readers. The Catsitter Mysteries are cozy and fun, while some of the darker Wyrdwood stories explore mature themes. Even the cozy ones may mention mature topics like death, violence, and animal/child endangerment. Whenever a book includes potentially sensitive material, you’ll find trigger warnings listed inside.

Q: Who is Kitty Kats?

Kitty Kats is the heart of the Catsitter Mysteries—a devoted catsitter with a knack for finding trouble. Along with her sharp-witted adult daughter and her regal tuxedo cat, Muse the King of Cats in Exile, Kitty navigates everyday life in Wyrdwood… where everyday life often turns out to be anything but ordinary. Kitty was inspired by my own adventures in catsitting.

Q: Is Muse (the king of cats in exile) based on a real cat?

Yes. Muse is inspired by my own tuxedo companion, who rules the house with a velvet paw and a rumbling baritone meow. Like his fictional counterpart, the real Muse is full of opinions and not afraid to share them.

Q: Will there be more books set in Wyrdwood?

Absolutely! Wyrdwood is a living, breathing world with endless stories to tell. From the Catsitter Mysteries to short stories, novellas, and spin-offs (like Butterscotch Fox’s Horoscopes), you can expect to see much more from Wyrdwood in the years to come.

Q: How can I find out when new books are released?

The best way is to sign up for my newsletter, From Wyrdwood. It’s where I share book news, exclusive extras, and glimpses behind the curtain. You can also follow me on social media for updates, cat photos, and the occasional dose of magick.

Q: This isn’t real, is it?

For the Normals reading this, it is, of course, fiction. The names, characters, places, and incidents are products of the writer’s imagination. Any resemblance to persons living or dead, actual events, locales, or organizations is entirely coincidental. Honest.
